1. Always Plan Ahead
If sailing is on your "to-do" list, then you've probably been thinking about it for a while. Let us remind you that sailing also offers last minute and early booking options. With a bit of luck, you might catch a really good deal at the last minute. Alternatively, you can be more decisive and make a reservation a few months in advance to take advantage of the well-known benefits. This is also one of the ways to save money. You can also save quite a bit by choosing to sail in the pre-season, which lasts until April or mid-May, and in the post-season, which starts in the second half of September and is especially popular in October when the weather at sea is pleasant and less crowded.
2. Cost Per Person
Different-sized yachts have a varying number of cabins. Larger ones can have up to 5. Such a yacht is bigger, more spacious, and equipped to accommodate more people. However, this doesn't necessarily mean it will be the most expensive option for you, as it depends on the number of people spending their vacation this way. When deciding on the size of the yacht, keep in mind to choose one large enough to fill all the cabins, as this will reduce the cost per person. Interestingly, the most demand is for 3-cabin yachts, which are suitable for about 6 people.
3. Flexibility
When choosing a crew for your sailing trip, keep in mind that you'll be spending a lot of time with these people – sharing meals, bathrooms, and sunbathing on the same deck. Therefore, it's important to get along well with the group you plan to embark on this adventure with, as it will be difficult to retreat. Being flexible will not only be beneficial in this case. If you're flexible with moorings or anchoring in open waters and don't mind it, you can save several hundred euros. We suggest paying for mooring and stopping at a marina only when you run out of drinking water, need to dispose of trash, refuel, or want to explore a town and enjoy its charms.
4. Destinations
It's common knowledge that the most popular destinations are also the most expensive. Moorings in marinas, stops for coffee or dinner... However, the most beautiful destinations can also be cost-free if you anchor in a bay without a concessionaire charging for mooring or anchoring, and prepare a delicious dinner on the boat with your crew, which can be unique due to the ambiance. Fortunately, at Prima Sailing, we know the most hidden culinary spots, the best "konobas," where you'll want to return again and again. How can the distance of popular destinations affect the cost of sailing? If you prefer speed and sail with a motorboat or yacht, the desired distant destination will be reached sooner, but the trip will be more expensive due to fuel consumption. However, if you let the wind fill your sails, even a distant destination will be cost-free in terms of fuel, and the pleasures of sailing are indescribable and thrilling. The travel time will just be slightly longer.
Prima Sailing recommends destinations to visit for their beauty and unspoiled nature. It's also important to plan your sailing route or itinerary for the duration of the rental, which depends on how long the rental lasts – 7-day or 14-day route.
5. Duration of Boat Rental
Most sailors rent boats for 7 days, but a 14-day rental is not uncommon during the season. These are usually family vacations or vacations for two or three families together.
Prima Sailing charter agency offers the possibility of renting a yacht and other vessels for a shorter period on its website. We understand that time and money often complicate decisions. We find it completely unreasonable to miss out on a wonderful experience and great adventure offered by the wind in the sails, so check out our current offer of shorter boat rentals.
If you want a really affordable short rental, we recommend first checking the available short rental terms. These are terms that remain unoccupied and are sold at a very favorable price. If you want to set your own term, make sure your start or end day is Saturday, as changes usually occur on Saturdays, making it easier to get a term than if your desired term spans Sunday, losing 2 weeks of potential rental for the boat and charter. Such short rentals (e.g., Thursday – Sunday) are usually not favorable, some charters don't offer them at all, and they are impossible during the peak season. It happens that for such short rental terms, some providers even have surcharges in their price lists.
Sailing is a unique experience that, by following the above tricks, can even be cheaper than a traditional week-long vacation. Certainly much more exciting.
